We have moved to Hellas-football.com

The forums could not be migrated - so each member has to make a new account on the new forum.

This place has been great and will be kept as a reserve just in case. However all traffic and conversation will now be at the new forum.

See you there!

General Discussion / nsminc - Nick MANIATIS - A soldier is lost.
« on: June 28, 2018, 04:19:56 AM »
What seems many many years ago - I got to know a forum member from the old Greek Soccer forums called nsminc. Canadian born - his name away from the forums was Nick Maniatis.  What struck me about him as I got to know him was he had three traits that seemed in-excess. One honesty. Two generosity. Finally he was deeply patriotic.  I remember when the Macedonia web address was released .MK. This happened years and years ago.   In those days - a dedicated few of us were all fighting any Skopian propaganda as and when it was invented.. We agreed that the Greek state should be blocking those domains or be buying them up. No one did and the skops were ready to take them all as the Greeks - as usual - just sat back useless with inertia and watched the nightmare unfold in slow motion like they are good at doing. In the night - the day of the release - he bought up all the best domains with the .MK web country code to block them having them. He also bought domains like Macedonia.com (that really pissed them off) etc.. He did it out his own pocket and expected nothing back.  He was deeply annoyed at what Greece had become and why he always seemed the last line of defence - a Greek from Montreal.. here biting an actual tiger's tail..

I spoke to him for hours and hours over the years.. He was smart, quick and knew his politics inside out. He knew the games the left play back to front and could predict events before they happened. He also was very funny and brutally critical of limp-dicked politicians around the world.  In my life, I see so few of him. When you find one like him - you will always be their friend because they are so rare.  They are more valuable than gold.

I found out tonight he passed at 52 years of age in February.  I had been busy and not heard anything from him and just assumed he was fine. He was even a member of this forum. Here is perhaps his last FB post:

Nick my friend, if you are up there - I want you to know that I miss you very much and that you broke my heart tonight. You made me cry into the early hours knowing you are no longer here. I will miss you very much and I still love you very much. I will miss you a lot. I will miss you very much. I hope you are somewhere at peace. This is for you Nick - I hope you are enjoying your rock music wherever you are file.

General Discussion / ** Funding Announcement **
« on: June 26, 2018, 02:35:08 PM »

Dear members,

I am hoping to re-title these forums and the web address to a more accessible and far reaching brand name.
I am also hoping to upgrade the software to a Vbulletin forum - which is expensive but far more ordered, stable and serious.

The aim is to create a stable, professional and fun forum that will always be there - through the ages. It will be a place to discuss your favourite team, players - politics - anything you want - whenever you want. It will be fully mobile compatible and modern in every way. It will also be very inclusive - say a foreign team is playing a Greek team in Europe - the forum will be easy for them find and participate in as well as the casual interested neutral.  The forums themselves will enhance Greek football and all our teams - making them more visible and accessible to the world. The aim is to have not only the best Greek football forum online - but one of the best football forums anywhere online full stop.

The current forum, address and hosting - I have funded personally and it is a non-profit venture - simply designed for the fans. However to make this move to more elite and streamline home - it will take funding. We will need a new web address, platform (Vbulletin) and an upgraded host package which comes to around €300 total. I have begun a Paypal Pool where it is easy and simple to make a donation.  Please do not hesitate to PM me for the url address of the Paypal Pool. Donations will be either anonymous or public as you wish and the PayPal Pool is completely transparent either way.  Those who choose to donate - no matter what amount - will be honoured on the new forum through a description on their profile.

“Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”

Thanks for you attention.

Asteras Tripolis / Europe

Europa Second Qualifying Round:

Hibernian (SCO) / NSÍ Runavík (FRO) v Asteras Tripolis (GRE)

If Hibs are the opponent it will be a good game:

Asteras should be favourites - once again - they have a very talented side full of interesting players.
