We have moved to Hellas-football.com

The forums could not be migrated - so each member has to make a new account on the new forum.

This place has been great and will be kept as a reserve just in case. However all traffic and conversation will now be at the new forum.

Olympiacos / Re: OLYMPIACOS VS BURNLEY - EUROPA CUP

@D11: He's the captain and that's pretty much Fortounis biggest strength, set-pieces.

I only saw highlights. I think OSFP got lucky because that shouldn't have been a penalty for the third goal, let alone a second yellow card. That goal has decided the tie. At 2-1, Burnley stood a real chance at progressing. Now OSFP are much bigger favorites to progress.

It looks to me that UEFA is making this a new standard. If a player handles the ball in the box, it's going to be called a penalty, accidental or not. And I think they're also getting tough on the cleats. If a player goes into a challenge with his cleats, he's getting a card, possibly a red, like we saw with AEK.

If I had to wager, I think UEFA/FIFA are really going for these changes to open up games. More reds and more penalties will see games open up and become more entertaining. Better, more technical sides will flourish. Teams that park the bus will find it very difficult now. I think that's the thinking here.

There was another handball first half in the box by a Burnley defender. Hit his hand and stopped the cross. Ref didn't give it and the players went wild.  There were also a few elbows in faces by the Burnley players that should have been straight reds. Was a nasty game plan by Burnley. Basically - beat up Olympiakos.

Ends 3-1.

We deserved it. They were animals. Disgisting aggressive team with little to no skill and tried all night to bully us off the park. Would have liked Martins to bring in the changes earlier.

They got what they deserved in the end.

Good result for PAOK. Paschalakis played very well. Pelkas as always was pressing hard and trying to create things most of the time on his own. We need him starting in the national team. Hopefully PAOK beat Benfica and go through. Will be very good for Greek football the same can be said for AEK.

Fuck me PAOK are fearless this year.

I saw a couple of clips of Hassan. He's got good instincts in front of goal, no doubt, but I see him being like another Djebbour at best. He's not someone to etch his name in the club's history books, not someone to make the difference needed in Europe. Even Guillerme, he's not in the same class as Ibagaza, Cambiaso, etc, and these are just players in the past couple of years. It's very frustrating to see the quality of players now coming into Greece. Our league is clearly in decline.

It is true. The quality of someone like Ibagaza - even how many positions he could play - was mind blowing. Add to that his age and he was still outshining every other midfielder in Greece..  Hassan is a type of stop gap. Perhaps to fight over the second striker with Manos after Guererro (if indeed Karim leaves).  The only positive thing I read concerning Hassan was how Benfica were hot for him until that injury wrecked his season.

The Greek footballing landscape has shifted. For the last 3 years it has been harder and harder to convince quality to play in Greece. Clearly incidents like fans attacking referees in the streets of Athens and Savvidis marching on the pitch mid game with a loaded weapon has not helped either..

There is some light I see however. This light is based in infrastructure. AEK's new stadium and then perhaps a 36,000 seater new Toumba give hope. Also - the nations that were growing so fast at the expense of Greek football - Ukraine, Switzerland - even Turkey - have slowed there progress.  There is the dream - it will be hard to make it a reality - especially with the mind-blowing stupidity so many Greeks in Greece demonstrate daily -  but there is a chance of a better day. The wreckage of Greece still has enough bite to scare opposing European teams.

This Burnley game is massive. No other way to describe it. English money and work ethic - vs Greek passion and style. It will be a serious game of football.

If we beat the Swiss - it is Burnley or Basaksehir.

Interesting game. AEK's fitness was a problem understandably.

Thought Bakasetas was garbage as he is most the time. Bakakis keeping his head above water just about.

Simoes was fundamental. Alef is slow as fuck but has good technique and vision. Livaja played well but seemed to want a red card in the game. Probably he misses the rage of his fellow slav Vranjes and now feels he has the be the mental one?

So happy Celtic are out of the CL.
